Default SATC Kick In The Pants 4/17/12: Lance Barrett

Alleged MLB umpire Lance Barrett wins the first Kick to the Pants for 2012,
for his missed call on what should've been a Strikeout for SOX pitcher Hector Santiago in the 9th last night.

His blown call allowed Oriole hitters another shot at the Sox rookie, and they came up Spades, Santiago allowing a HR on the very next pitch allowing the O's to tie, then later win the game.

Umpires are NOT supposed to influence ballgames, and only 2 weeks into 2012, Barrett and his crew have done just that

Umps blow calls. You have to overcome it. The Penguins had a 3-0 lead against the Flyers and then the Flyers scored on a goal that should have been negated by an off sides call. The Penguins ended up losing the game 4-3. The Sox had a 4-2 lead and ended up losing 10-4. You can't let one bad call cause you to fall apart. Umps and refs make bad calls all the time. As much as I want the Sox to win they have too many AAA players on their roster. I want them to prove me wrong but it could be a long year.

The thing I see here is a rookie pitcher having a setback, losing his composure and crumbling under the pressure. Ventura or Cooper should've taken a trip to the bump to talk to Santiago and claim him down. Rookies are gonna have some green moments. As far as the season is concerned....Don't trust what the so called experts say. This Sox team is better then assumed. You all know what happen when you assume, don't you?

Actually, Cooper did go out there after the base hit following Cespedes' bomb

Santiago made a good pitch, but Cespedes smoked it. Anyone see it?
it was on the outside part of the plate, he had to absolutely MUSCLE that for it to go out. It wasn't a cheap-Sandberg-wind-blown-350ft-basket-at-Wrigley shot.
It was a BOMB

My original comment applys to the blown save vs Baltimore on 4/16/12, not @ Oakland on 4/25/12. Thanks for playin' though.
