The Clumsy Ox apparently has torn his labrum and will require surgery immediately. He will be Out For The Season. Hall however has told reporters he wants a 2nd opinion. Per the Score
I still can't believe he injured himself when he went to his right when the play developed .........

Why our backup catcher was playing First Base in a spring training is a mystery to me.
Trading Chris Stewart is gonna hurt now...

 wonder how much criticism Ozzie is gonna get for having him at first base. That really really sucks. From being out a couple of days to a torn labrum.... Especially after he was hitting .406. Granted it was Spring Training but...

I didn't know Hall could play 1B. When I first saw him out there shagging balls, I thought WOW, our team is gonna be pretty deep. But I swear, for anyone who has seen the play, the guy must've been wearing Cement Nike's, because he looked totally flatfooted on a somewhat easy play .....

Hall used to be pretty versatile. I had him on my fantasy team a few years back, and IIRC he was eligible for C, 1B and OF. Of course, that was a few years ago.
In regards to this injury, it blows donkey balls.

Why? Guys play different positions in Spring Training all the time...and it was a freak injury. If you blame Ozzie, I'm sorry, but you're a fucking idiot (BTW, I'm not calling you an idiot, just generally speaking to those that do think it's Ozzie's fault).
Sandy Alomar, anyone? ;)

Yeah, not Ozzie's fault at all. I guess it's no one's fault really but yikes, that's not good. I was looking forward to some action with Toby this season.

With Ozzie's love affair with Luis Terrero, maybe Anderson for Olivo?

Wasn't Olivo the starting catcher for the Marlins last year? Or do they have some phenom that's going to play this year?

the one position we have no depth in at all. it stinks!
doubly bad is we'll probably have to trade for someone and we won't be in the best bargaining position. hmmmm which pitcher are we going to give up?

For a backup catcher? No more than a Boone Logan, I'd hope.
Likely what we'll see is some Wiki Gonzalez and if it's not working out, a trade later.

I agree but you know some posters are gonna blame him for it. It wouldnt surprise me see Mariotti say something on this.

Oh, no doubt about it. If it's something negative to say then that gigantic poofter, Mariotti, will have a field day about this one.

Kenny's already got some magical BU Catcher stew that he's brewing that will consist of some minor league throwaways and Brian Anderson's self-esteem...
Yes, his name is Widge.

Hmm... that actually would make sense considering he was just released. But why was he just released by the fucking Rockies?

The same.
Well, he hasn't really been the same since going to Baltimore.
But he is only a few years removed from hitting .300's with 20-something homers. Maybe it's a 'roids thing...

not lil Javy... the one they traded to Boston for David Riske. Maybe they'll sign big Javy and trade him for Riske again. You know how KW likes to bring guys back.
Where's Widger??? Beer leagues?

He was not signed by anyone over the offseason; his softball team might want something for him, though.

From Rotoworld:
With Chris Stewart traded to the Rangers, the internal options to replace him as A.J. Pierzynski's backup are Wiki Gonzalez and Gustavo Molina. Javy Lopez is available as a free agent, but he's said he doesn't want to be a backup. Former White Sox backup Chris Widger is also unemployed. Finally, there will be some guys available in trades, with Sal Fasano, Kelly Stinnett, Chad Moeller, Sandy Alomar Jr., Mike Rivera and Todd Pratt a few of the possibilities. I wonder if he's even in shape?
I just picture Widge sitting in a big Lazy Boy watching ESPN and very calmly saying "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck..."

Yeah, but he wasn't invited to anyone's camp this year and the season ended 6 months ago. That's plenty of time to get out of playing shape.

I wonder, though, if he would change his mind to come to the Sox...or he'll most likely retire.

Who said he hasn't been working out? I'd imagine he's in shape if he really wants to start somewhere.

No clue. All I'm saying is that we don't know either way, and just because he played last season doesn't means he's ready for this season. No more, no less.

Yeah, I understand...I'm just saying if he really wants to be starting somewhere, rather than a backup, then he should be in shape.

Anyway.
It sounds to me like Ozzie is interested in using someone who's already with the club.

I don't think KW is going to run to the media and detail the club's desperate backup catcher situation. Most of what he has said today regarding Hall and "Organizational depth and insulation" is posturing.
On the topic, I'd much rather see KW/Ozzie give Molina a shot as opposed to making some kneejerk reactionary move and burn through more prospects. Besides, who would the candidates be? Olivo isn't going anywhere and the other possibilities that would cost Heath Phillips, Boone Logan, Adam Russell, etc aren't any better than giving Molina some 120 or so ABs.
Hell, maybe Molina turns out to be a good MLB catcher like Olivo turned out to be when he was called up.

If he's out indefinetly, Look for KW to have a new backup by opening day.
Possibly Widger, but more likely a trade.

I figured that KW would feel comfortable going into the season with only one catcher.

They're going to re-evaluate at the end of April to see how it's doing. Apparently, out of four doctors, only two of them said he would need surgery...so hopefully the other two are the smart ones.
If we could get him back by mid-May/the end of May, that would be great.

Thats interesting ...... I wonder if theres an incidence of torn labrums being mis-diagnosed? Would be good news, but would he be 100% by then?
