We'd gone over an hour without a post in this forum, so I had to act fast.
Anyway, what is your take on this growing furor? (The Rural Juror? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rural_Juror))

Carlos Moreno, who has been a truck driver for nearly four decades, said he doesn’t begrudge anyone trying to make a living.
“There’s enough for all of us,” said Moreno, an El Paso resident.
But he is concerned that some of the drivers from Mexico can’t read highway signs written in English. “You can always tell in construction zones,” he said.
Sounds like a killer idea, let's open our roads up to drivers who can't even read the signs. Nothing could possiblie go wrong.
Additionally, law enforcement officials have stepped up nationwide enforcement of a law that’s been on the books since the 1970s requiring interstate truck and bus drivers to have a basic understanding of written and spoken English.
Whew, the government is hard at work on this problem. It certainly puts my mind at ease...

How about this chart?

Apparently the Canadians are having a rough time translating also?
What is misleading is they don't show the number of miles driven...
True, but the article said that Canadian trucking firms have unlimited access to haul goods in the US, whereas Mexican truckers can only drive 20 miles from the border at certain border crossings. There should be mention of how many miles are driven by Canadian trucks vs. Mexican ones.

That is what I mean. Canadian miles must be more by a factor of hundreds

I'm not in favor of putting American truck drivers out of business.

Hmm, so what's a better option?
a. Mexican drivers that can't read English signs,
b. Ignorant American drivers that do know English but are above the regulations of the road.
I'll pass on both.

That was the climax of my joke, preferably.
I would not approve either.

Yeah, you'd think they'd come up with something better at some point during the last 13 years, but it's always pretty transparent.

Trucks are quite inconvenient. Busses too... Maybe they should just make a slow slow lane for just trucks. And then a slow slow slow lane for idiot slow cars.
