Chicago Tribune:
4 cub stories
3 sox stories
Chicago SunTimes:
3 cub stories
3 sox stories

96 Losses in 2006, WS Trophy in current ads on TV despite no WS titles since the Roosevelt administration, 3 90-win seasons since 1950 Cubs 159
90 Wins in 2006, WS Trophy in 2006 TV Ads, having actually WON the Title in 2005, 14 90-win seasons since 1950 Sox 105

The SOX continue to lose ground to the 96 Losses in 2006 Cubs, despite winning 90 games themselves last season. Though they finished in last place last season, the Cubs defiantly display a World Series Trophy in their 07 marketing ads, in perverse hope that they will be mistaken as a "winning" organization.

Hanger, out of curiousity, are you keeping count in your total stories for the days that you DONT post a Media Watch thread? Or is it just for the days you decide to count them and post?

And also, what is the significance of 1950?

Probably just an easier cut-off point. He could have gone back to 1946, too.

I still think it's 4 90+ winning seasons -- 1998 involved a 163rd game that the Cubs won, pushing them to 90 wins. I've told Hangar this before, but he refuses to acknowledge it.

My measurements of 90 Win seasons are reflected on the current 162 Game Schedule. Hangar does NOT recognize their 163 game season in 1998

and 1950 is a nice round and even number

They didn't start playing 162 games until 1961 or so.

You are correct. They started playing 162 game schedules in 1961.
Which is why its more incredible that the SOX racked up FOUR 90-win Seasons from 1950 to 1960.

I normally don't quote myself, but I think you forgot about my question, Hanger...

So then why even publish this? Your data is corrupt.

Did you like the giant fullpage photo-ad the Trib has been running with Micheal Barret? Fucking disgusting. I almost puked up my breakfast as I was eating.

It's a full page with a shot of Nancy boy pointing and yelling something with his mask off. It's just him. No background or anything. Then it says "Play like there's no tomorrow" and has the schedule.

I swear I'm glad I was sober.

Isn't it also incredible that the CUBS had SIXTEEN 90-win seasons from 1900 through 1950 whereas the Sox have only had five 90-win seasons in that same time frame?

I'm with Goose, plus I'm sure not every one of those stories is a "fluff" piece on the Cubs. The content should be taken into account as opposed to just the sheer number of stories which only contains data from days you checked.

this is not the hardcore analysis I expect out of a Blossum fan.

I heard Blossom had six seasons where thier ratings placed them among the top 90 of prime time shows..(but that was only counting their seasons on the air since 1950..not 1900)..

Impressive..

The majority of Sox fans have only experienced seasons from the 1950's until today. In fact, not even a lot have experienced the 1950's. I'd say it's a fair range.

57 years seems like a fair sample size to me.

oh, and there isn't an intelligent Sox fan out there who would deny that the Cubs were hands down the team (record-wise) in Chicago until the 50's. Minus a few seasons here and there.

Let me phrase it another way. It is not accurate. You, by your own admission, do not always count the stories in every day's newspapers, then your totals are bogus. Now, I am not saying that the Cubs do not get more media coverage than the Sox, but your totals are full of shit, they are no longer reliable. Does it not seems so to you?

I think that little quibble is quite ridiculous myselef. The final standings say 90-73, period. And what is the BFD between 3 and 4 anyway? It is just one more little number. Guess it just adds a little bit more to the persecution complex.

Just like Exit polls that put into their totals, a % that allows for it to be off,
so are mine. Because I missed a couple of Sundays means the totals are off? HAHAA ok George!

But you know, you may be right .......those 2 days, were probably the days the Trib and Times did like 12 Stories on the SOX and 1 on the Cubs
