SP Brandon McCarthy and OF David Paisano to the Rangers for SP John Danks, SP/RP Nick Masset and SP Jacob Rasner.
I still say it was a good trade for the Sox. Danks has looked pretty good this year and may be the 5th starter. Massett most likely will make the team as a reliever. Not sure what McCarthy has done this spring.
SP Freddy Garcia to the Phillies for SP Gavin Floyd and SP Gio Gonzalez.
This one the jury is still out on. The real part of this deal was Gonzalez. He may not be ready till next year sometime.
1B/OF Darin Erstad
I think this is a replacement of Ross Gload. They are the same kind of player, but Erstad can play more positions.
C Toby Hall
This was a good signing because it gives us a power hitting RH bat off the bench that can be the backup catcher.
1B/DH Eduardo Perez
This was a little signing but I think he may make an impact with this team at some point this season.

I'm starting to like the Perez signing. IF, and I pray to God this won't happen, Thome or Paulie are on the shelf, we have a decent replacement who can get some hits to come in and help out.

I really like the Freddy Garcia deal. I am really high on Gio and I think he will develop very nicely for us. Gavin is a player that was the 2003 top prospect of the Phil's orginization and has a lot of talent and it was worth a shot on him.

don't forget gload for sisco (jury's definitely out...but we hardly gave up anything)
also don't forget Cotts for Aardsma (jury's also out, but losing Cotts seems likely to be addition by subtraction even if Aardsma struggles)

I think the Mccarthy/Danks Masset deal was a steal for us.
Im still predicting our 5th starter has as many wins as BMAC.
Masset will eventually replace Jenks
Danks will be a 14-15 game winner by next season.
A steal

I think the Erstad signing will prove to be a disaster, since it means Ozzie gets his way and sends BA to AAA.

I'm dreading that...and not just because of my BA preference. :(

Honestly..it's way too early to see. A lot of the trades in 2005 did not look good intially - but we found out later they were great trades.
I'd have to wait until at least a few months into the season to judge..

Perez MASHES lefties. If you look at some of the top pitchers in the division...hhhmmm...Santana, Sabathia, Lee, Rogers, Robertson...he could be a real killer in those tough games against said lefties.

What about this??
"Garcia, picked up in an offseason trade with the White Sox, was to be examined by the Phillies' medical staff today, team spokesman Larry Shenk said.
''He wasn't throwing a whole lot up there,'' manager Charlie Manuel said after the Phillies' 10-6 win. ''I figured something might be wrong.''
The two-time All-Star allowed five hits, including a two-run home run by Troy Glaus, in the first inning and did not come out for the second against the Blue Jays.
In 8 2/3 spring innings, Garcia has allowed 15 hits, 11 runs -- all earned -- walked six and struck out two."

That Garcia trade will be even better if it turns out we Sirotka'ed the Phils on it...

they got GRIFTED
....but it's "still a bad trade because I know for a fact that Kenny could have gotten much more than a top prospect and mlb ready past-top-project"

Yeah if you think the D'Backs will give Chris Young up now you are crazy. They won't let him go unless you give up something huge.

You've heard of Chris Young I'm hoping right?
The D'backs are laughing at us right now .............

hangar, reading is a fucking skill.
of course i've HEARD of him. But he was traded LAST YEAR for Vazquez. This thread is about trades made THIS YEAR.
Christ.....
meanwhile, on what basis are they laughing at us? What has Chris Young ever done at the MLB level. That would be like us LAUGHING at Phillie for trading us Floyd and Gonzalez....
you're such a fucking hypocrite when it comes to lavishing other GM's with praise you won't afford Kenny

oh christ, Kenny is the biggest moron ever.
That's, of course, not to say that Young will never be good. In fact, he probably will. But Arizona is laughing at us? FUCKING GET REAL HANGAR

Sorry Henry, gotta agree with the masses. In fact, what has Williams done that you have actually praised when it happened?

Im just saying, people were praising his deals, wondered what people thought about the Chris Young trade ...........

We won't know until Vazquez finishes his contract off, and Chris Young actually has a major league career. You can't seriously judge that trade now.

Just as we can't judge either of the McCarthy & Garcia trades until Danks, Masset, Rasner, Floyd and Gonzalez provide for the MLB team or are "bust" prospects.
