A girl yesterday was chastising my choice of teams, telling me how much cooler their park was, and thats why her team "rules" ...........when she noticed her team being hyped on the tv.

Has anyone seen that Comcast commercial yet? TV screen shows each player, mugging for the camera, swinging a bat etc, then Shows Piniella, Zambozo, $oriano ................
then shows a bright and big gleaming image of the World Series Trophy ........spinning majestically, followed by the Cubs logo and the players again ..............

(Eerily similar to the commercials Comcast used for the SOX following their WS win in 05)

I LAUGHED HYSTERICALLY ............... she wooed and said "world series!"
when I reminded her that the Cardinals WON the series last year, not her team. She thought for a moment ............. than said that her team was GOING TO WIN IT, and thats why Comcast was showing the Trophy with the Cubs.
Screw you Comcast

The Cubs are always going to win the World Series every March - don't you know that?

My brother's a Cubs fan..and every year it's the same song and dance from December to April.

Actually it's kind of embarassing...he never learns.

That has to be one of the most Ridiculous ads I've ever seen. Think about it ...... how can they do that? That team, in all sense of ethics, has absolutely no right, to display that Trophy in their commercials ...... as if they already "won" it. Its preposterous.

It is bad.

I have no problem with them indicating they want to win but to make it seem like destiny is just :puke:

I think they are very well aware of what they're trying to do. Its not so much "destiny" as much as they are a bogus organization, cutting corners and displaying an incredible lack of integrity, pretending they've already "won" a trophy. Most of us already know that organization has lacked any integrity for quite some time (moving to NLWest flap/strong-arming roof-top owners/squatting on RR property/finagling public right-of-way property under the guise they are going broke)

It really is. I haven't been "fortunate" enough to see it yet, but I have a feeling I will. World Series Trophy? Seriously? They make me laugh. I hate how they keep acting like their team is going to do a complete turn-around and win it all. Whatever.

quite a debate here regarding this in my office. Basically 100% of the people here think the north-siders are bush league for implying they've already won the series

Fortunately the guy here at work who is one of those "This year is the year" kind of idiots is retiring after this school year. It'll be great to stick it to him one more time with the Sox being in much better shape at that time.

They'll never win the World Series in our lifetime.

Fortunately we don't have to deal with their problems. It's great to be able to say we've seen our team win the World Series.

So how many people do you think saw the commercial and are trying to figure out where they were when the Cubs won it and why they don't remember it?

I'm not all that upset about this. No more upset than if Tampa Bay did the same thing.

Thats the thing. Tampa would never do something like that, as any other team for that matter. Only an Arrogant organization like the northsiders would do something like that

Yeah, like Hangar said, Tampa isn't that dumb and their fans aren't that dumb. The Drays know with their talent they aren't winning a WS any time soon, and putting a trophy in their ads would be insulting to the few fans they have. Cub fans don't realize that with their talent they are a .500 team at best. Two totally different situations here.

My friend is one of those typical Cubs fans. Hot, loves going to Wrigley to drink beer, and only knows that Mark Prior is on the team. To her benefit though she called me the other day and said that she was going to learn the names of all of the White Sox position players. At first I thought maybe she picked the wrong team but nope she really meant the Sox and said that I had to do the same with the Cubs......uhm she really is nice to look at. All sarcasm aside I was actually a little flattered that she would even think of doing something like that. She is a little princess and knows absolutely nothing about sports but she really wants to put an effort into learning and I can't find fault in that. So as such she will be going with me to the April 4th game.
