He probably will, so I won't even say what I want to.

And that dog makes me sad.

It's situations like these that prevent me from taking the NAACP seriously. Not necessarily because I have an opinion on whether or not the NFL should take Michael Vick back (I don't have an opinion) but rather because it demonstrates favoritism towards celebrities for no real good reason.

This is just some special interest group trying to make news, and by George they succeeded.

Vick could spend a few years in jail and never play football again for all I care. But that won't happen because he plays football. :O

“As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football,” said R.L. White, president of the NAACP’s Atlanta chapter. “We further ask the NFL, Falcons, and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country.”

What rehabilitation? This isn't a 17 year old kid who got caught up with drugs. This is a grown man who made the decision to run an illegal enterprise involving brutality against, and the murder of, living beings. Fuck him. Put this stuff on a resume and see how many employers will give you a second look.

Forgive me as a member of society for wanting nothing to do with any rehabilitation of Michael Vick.

so do exterminators draw your ire?

how about farmers?

i know one's illegal, the other's not...but still. i think it sucks what he did to dogs, but let's not trump it up by pretending like "living beings" means something

this is puzzling to me. what's your point? we're not talking about the non-nfl world. we're talking about the nfl world. do you think anyone in the NFL who's gotten in trouble for something that would preclude employment in the business world should be blackballed?

or what?

that's your prerogative. i think it's good you have that opinion. but on the other hand...forgive me if i don't get excessively indignant about this

Fair enough. I don't agree that killing bugs to protect homes from collapse or from crop destruction is quite the same as killing a dog who wasn't a good enough fighter for one's taste.

Are you asking whether I would disallow his return if I was Goodell? I would. I'm saying that his being a NFL player should not mean that it should take a greater level of crime for the league to stop him from being gainfully employed in the league.

I'm not sure what "this" you're referring to. Is it the crime itself or R.L. White's comments? In my previous post, all I was saying is that I don't think this is a "mistake" or a slip-up by Vick, but White seems to imply that it is by talking about rehabilitation. Vick was the organizer and financier of the ring, not just a middle man, something that White doesn't seem to, or doesn't want to, understand.

There's nothing for which you need forgiveness. I'm just stating my opinion on a message board.

The NAACP has been irrelevant for many years. It's a shell of its former self.

I'm not remotely concerned about killing living beings. I'm concerned about torturing them as a form of entertainment.
