I love the commercials, and this show actually looks and sounds to be pretty good as well. I'm definately watching it.

Oh, I'll watch it.

It's gonna be so god awful, I gotta see this train wreck before it gets canceled (which, should've been a few months ago).

i know that a pilot was commissioned (?) by a network, are they actually airing this shit?

i'll never watch it. i don't even own a tv*.

*Not true. just wanted to sound like a hipster doofus.

Yeah, I'm thinking like...2.

They'll order one more because the first will get solid ratings, but none after that cause the reviews will be shit, and word of mouth will be shit as well.

Actually, I think I read about this in Newsweek quite a few weeks ago.

My take on it is a sort of social commentary, subplanting caveman, with black man, hispanic man, etc., It sounds very witty, and kind of edgy, I will watch a few and see how it rolls.

WHAT?!?!?!?!

3D23
08-19-2007, 06:31 PM
From Slate:
At the campaign's ancillary Web site, CavemensCrib.com (it lets you poke around their apartment), we learn that the cavemen are into (among other things): blogging, Tolstoy, yoga, smoked Hungarian paprikash, and Paddy Chayefsky movies. They have poetry magnets on their fridge … in Esperanto.

QUAYE IS A CAVEMAN!?!?!?!?!?!? I had no idea.

TeeDeeGee

Everyone shut up.

It's gonna be garbage. The mere fact that this is going to air is testament to precisely why I hate everything on TV (except 4 or 5 exceptions).

Wait, 3D, I'm trying to figure out what you mean in your first post.

Do you mean, they are putting the caveman in situations in which people who are not caveman on the show will act as if the caveman are out of place? Thereby, perpetuating a stereotype that a caveman wouldn't be able to do those things? By trying to do it in a hilarious way are they hoping that white people will say, "Man, if a caveman can write poetry, maybe a black man can be president."?

I think.

Spider_Pig

I'm pretty sure it will be pretty bad, but I'm still interested. The concept of it is what is really hilarious to me.

Yeah, I think that's the point of the show.

It's pushing the whole prejudice thing from the commercials unnecessarily far.

But like everyone else, they must address the issue in the most indirect way they could possibly imagine. Caveman, yeah that's a good idea to me.:jagoff:

I am trying to find the article in context so I can elaborate further. My feeble mind doesn't recall the wording from the article, only that it was viewed by the Newsweek writer, and that the example you posted is pretty much what was implied with the article. If I find it, I will post a link. I want to say it was like April or May that I read it.

Here is an excerpt from a newsweek article, but not the one I was thinking of. It at least supports my interpretation:

--Critics battered the all-white, all-male panel of producers and stars for trying to tackle issues of diversity and prejudice against a minority group, even a non-existent one. Numerous critics pointed out that the stereotypes (great dancers! athletic! known for their sexual prowess!) displayed by the cavemen in the pilot seemed to fit stereotypes about African-Americans, but the producers denied that was the case.

This is a case of producers not understanding that what kind of works in a 20-30 second burst won't work in a 30 minute sitcom.

Best part, that quote was from ESPN the Magazine.

I read a while ago that the show was pushed back because after pitching the pilot, the network that bought the show wanted the pilot re-shot... So they had to re-film, re-edit, etc the pilot episode. *shrug*

Is it even on yet? I didn't read the four pages of this thread.

Cavemen dressed in modern clothes and acting like normal folks on TV was funny when Phil Hartman did it 47 years ago.

It's not funny anymore.

Funny you should mention that Maurice, I was just thinking the same thing. I watched 101 funniest SNL moments last night. I had forgotten all about that little sketch. Duh me.

Watched 5 minutes of this little ditty last night, then cursed ABC for the scum laden vermin they are.

you know, if they base the show that way ......It could be a mild hit.
The Geico commercials are really funny to me, I hope they're not basing the show as Cavemen-racism. They could do better than that .......

It's funny reading this thread that starts with people saying it looks kind of funny and they're going to watch it, to the same people saying it looks stupid and they'll never watch, to the same people again saying they watched a little of it and it was horrible.

This was one of those shows where they refused to send copies of the show to media outlets for review because they didn't want the horde of horrible reviews to deter people from watching. As ALWAYS, that's never a good sign when they do that with movies and tv shows.
