"I think you're going to see (utilityman Rob) Mackowiak in the field a lot," the manager said. "I don't think you're going to see Mackowiak in center field that much -- I want to keep my job."

That much? How about not at all?

I could not agree more! Mack not playing the OF has to be worth at least a win or two.

I'd love to see Mack play more and I've love to not see him in center. He can do some great things for this team as a utility man as long as he's not forced into situations that he obviously can't preform well in.

I can't decide if Ozzie really means "okay, okay, Mack will only play CF in a dire emergency or 17 inning game, I've learned my lesson"

or

"I won't play him in CF as much, but I'm stubborn about this and he'll probably start there 10-12 times this season."

I like to think that Ozzie just isn't that dense. It would take a whole lot of idiocy to really not understand that Mack doesn't belong in center.

As long as Dye, BA, Erstad and Pods stay healthy I see no reason for Ozzie to put Rob in the OF accept of course shagging fly balls in BP.:)

Some of us could see little reason to keep putting him in there last year...

Personally, I hope that BA's BA/Clubhouse Attitude/Luck improves to the point where Ozzie doesn't feel that he has to put Mack in there for him.

Oh, and, before I forget, hehe, hehe, you said 'shagging'....

"In the Field" doesn't necessarily mean that he'll be in the outfield. Mack can play 3 of the 4 IF positions.

If I remember right he can 3B, 2B and 1st too. Im pretty sure thats what was said about him when we first traded for him.

I wonder how he'd look at 3B.

Has to better than Ozuna

The only IF position I read he couldnt play was SS so I wouls guess that he can play 3B well. I believe he was a 3B in the minors.

Mack:
POS/Games/Innings

RF* 253 1377.3
3B* 173 1197.0
CF* 173 1171.3
LF* 74 319.7
2B* 59 393.7
1B* 5 17.3
DH 2

So yes, probably better than Pablo at 3B, who's only played 49 games there and looks like he's only played 49 there.

Nice. Pablo at 3B is like Drew Carey at 3B

He'd probably be making some face like this---

I'm not sure if this is a new quote from Ozzie or what, but he did say something to that effect earlier in the offseason.
The BA/Mack platoon still confounds the hell out of me. It made negative sense at the time and it just kept on happening...and happening...and happening. I still believe there was some behind the scenes nonsense happening with BA that Ozzie was punishing him for.
Either way, hopefully lessons were learned by all parties involved and that translates into Mack NEVER setting foot in CF again.

ugh---can we not talk about how much Mackowiack sucks in CF.

The fact is---we'll probably be seeing him out there, which is a fucking bummer, but until Pods is healthy I don't see how we're not

Well, maybe not. Ozzie kinda clarified for SI in this quote:

Manager Ozzie Guillen gets the final say on the rotation, and right now, he's only certain about one thing: Rob Mackowiak won't play center.

"I want to keep my job, and I think Mackowiak wants to keep his job, too," Guillen said.

So Pods is hurt. Erstad's a huge ? mark and BA is a moderate ? Where the fuck are these outfielders coming from?

JohnBasedowYoda

Thank god. It only took him an entire year to figure it out. Took us like a game or two...

I only took you that long because you're a smarty pants.

I say give the man a few more shots. If we're still in it by July then I say good call.

If things are unsure, or there's injuries, we can shuffle Pods, Erstad, BA, Dye and even Pablo around in a pinch. Assume Mack can play left only. I think that's enough arrows in the quiver.

Well we do have Sweeney, Owens and Tererro as options for back ups at CF so I think Rob's days in CF are indeed over!

Edit: Throw Fields into the mix as a possible LF too.

I think BA will come around at the plate.

Must've been a lot of pressure playing on a team expected to go deep again.

My point is, our options look shitty right now.

Look---I hate Mackowiack in CF. But what else do we have if BA's not playing? BA will not play every day. I don't want Erstad or Pods in center any more than I want Mack. I also do not want Ozuna or Dye. Christ!

At least Mackowiack can hit, you know?

If Erstad stays healthy then he is a much better option than Rob in CF. Dont forget that Erstad has won 2 Gold Gloves in the out field.

yeah---but that was before his knees became worse than....your mom's

just kidding, but nevertheless earnstadt is banged up. I doubt he has much range at all (even less than Rowand!!! )

Well I cant say you're right or wrong. We will indeed find out the answer to Erstad during S/T though. I think he'll be ok cause I cant see KW signing him if he isnt ready to go so for now I will give Erstad the benefit of the doubt.

Worse comes to worse we pull Crissy away from Farmer and put a uni on him. Im sure Farmer wont mind.:D

Thats funny Ozzie said that, but Mackowiak lost us about 3-4 games in CF.
That all falls eventually on Ozz. Less Mack in CF, Less Buehrle throwing BP a few games, SOX could've WON that division and probably beat StLouis and we'd be talking about our 2nd World Championship. I honestly believe that.
