View Full Version : KW Not Happy With The Team But Expects No Trades

When asked if the Sox were in a good place with just more than two weeks to go before Opening Day.

“No,’’ Williams said. “I’m not happy.’’

When asked to expound, Williams declined to offer more details.

I’m going to leave it at that,’’ he said. “My thoughts are better expressed in private meetings with the coaching staff. On individual players, it serves no purpose for me to make public comments about what I do or don’t think. That’s my new political response. I don’t want to get in trouble anymore.’’

Williams did say no major trades are in the works, putting to rest rumors ranging from Aaron Rowand to Carl Pavano.

“We have the right people here,’’ Williams said. “We have the personnel that can win a championship. If you see a trade, you can never say never, it’ll be somebody that’s behind another guy, where that position might be blocked.’’

Obviously there's still time - and it seems like every Spring Williams is driving around on that golf cart furious about the team.

well, that doesn't sound promising.

Sounds like an entire pitching staff that needs to have it's cage rattled. I'm on the side that says you can't gauge much by ST stats, but you CAN tell a little something by KW having a hissy fit.

You can't tell much by ST stats, but we did know that a bunch of the pitchers were competing to get that 5th starter spot and if most of them look shitty well, that certainly says something. Also, the fact that KW is even willing to publically say that he's not pleased must mean he's really not pleased.

At least in 2007 no one is really expecting the Sox to win it all, so they don't have that pressure on them.

Its good to know he's not happy either with the way they are playing in ST

Speak for yourself...

Whether I think they will is one thing, but I expect them to expect to. Remember, this isn't supposed to be a "rebuilding" year. Most of the moves were supposedly made to solidify the bullpen situation for THIS year while improving the $$ situation for later.

A summer of getting good looks at what might be the 2008 champs is not something I'm that interested in...

I don't mean us as fans not expecting them to win, I mean critics and sports writers, etc. But who says the trades made this year weren't made with 2008, 2009, and 2010 in mind, though? In many ways, by getting young and inexperienced arms, this off season seems like just that to me. You don't have to like it.

Yeah, critics and sportswriters can go scratch.

Don't get me wrong, I know the moves were made with the future in mind, but not at the expense of '07. I'm just saying that their drive should be to take it all. By the sounds of that article, KW doesn't seem to see that drive. He see the parts, but obviously somethings lacking. That's the part that freaks me out.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying and I agree 100%.

No team should ever have a season in which they have an "understanding" that they're supposed to be working for the future and that they don't need to win it all. Especially not the Sox. Despite that, though, I still think that's part of what's going on here.

That dude is always sayin "no more trades." And then BLAMO! there's a trade in the works. He's addicted to that shit man, he needs his fix.

Perhaps he likes what we have in terms of talent but doesn't like what he's seeing in terms of performance and preparation, or something. That's what I glean from this, anyway. Just my $.02 :)

Yeah, I think that's generally where he stands... but when I listened to him on the game yesterday, I got the same impression that Yoda did, that he was pleased with how everything is going, etc. He's supposed to say things like that anyway, he's a public figure for Sox fans and you probably won't see him outwardly bashing the team unless something's seriously wrong anyway.

I honestly have no problems with the team as of yet, I'm waiting til the season starts to pass judgment on anyone.

I for one think we'll be fine. It always seems like Opening Day is a huge kick in the pants for guys who struggled in ST. And, one by one our pitchers are coming around which is another plus.
