From the Fox article:
So with the potential for contamination and the currently limited ways to recycle CFLs, should we still use them? Absolutely.
As stated above, even if a CFL is thrown in the trash and the mercury it contains leaks out, it still puts less mercury in the environment than a regular, incandescent bulb, according to the EPA.
Though they don't contain mercury, incandescent bulbs are still lit by electricity, which is often generated by coal-burning plants.
I'm not sure how Fox or the writer embarrassed themselves. The articles were really on two separate issues regarding CFLs (home clean-up and recycling), but both agree they're more environmentally friendly.
If I'm missing the point, let me know, as it is hardly a rare occurrence.

I'd be willing to bet that this story was edited for TV to show only negative aspects. Fox News tends to do that.

Uh, as does CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, BCC, Al Jazeera, etc.
All news is insanely slanted. Fox News is slanted to the right which is why its attacked the most.

No, they're attacked the most for being a full-blown propaganda network that sells itself as an actual news source.

The news is always too depressingly negative. So I usually try to just avoid it. Most of the "news" is all garbage anyways.

I think Fox's ratings are buoyed by a good number of attractive women in short skirts being on the air. That's the real cable news war. News is news otherwise.

I had something else for that post, but then I forgot what it was. Something about Fuller making sacrifices for his craft or what not. My brain shuts down after midnight and coherent thoughts are a combination of coincidence and luck.

Without looking, 10 bonus points to anyone who can name all of the "K" streets in Oak Lawn between Pulaski and Cicero (10 extra points if they are in order east to west)
DOUBLE BONUS: one street does not begin with a K. name it.

Yea the fox article is wrong but guess what as was said earlier CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, BCC, Al Jazeera and all other news channels slant left. I love the fact that liberals only bring up Fox news errors and ommissions not liberal networks or newspapers
maurice
08-13-2007, 04:03 PM
Assuming for the sake of argument that Al Jazeera slants in favor of Islamo-fascism, that would mean that they slant right.
Also, major print and radio overwhelming slant to the right.
Bonzosa

I guess I don't understand what is so wrong about the FOX article.
Yes it is sensationalized a bit, but not unlike any MSNBC or CNN story.
CFL's have mercury in them and they do pose a disposal problem. The problem is most Americans are too lazy to save the spent bulbs and return them to a proper recycler like Home Depot or a municipal recycle facility.
So in great numbers they pose a problem.
What is dishonest about that?
I liken this problem to the Prius, which is hailed as the next coming even though they require massive amounts of nickel in order to produce their batteries. Nickel production is an especially environmentally degrading process. However, this is overlooked because people feel better about themselves driving if they can do it in the "guilt-free billboard" that is the Prius.
Hey, look at me! I am saving the earth while I drive!
Read this article (http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/20070404_Hidden_cost_of_driving_a_Prius.html), its based on research from an Oregon organization that analyzed the environmental impacts of vehicles based on the materials made to use the cars, costs to maintain and the expected lifespan of a vehicle.
Very interesting info I believe.
