When the SOX picked him up, they got him fairly cheap as he was coming off an injury. The move paid off midway thru the 05 season big time.
I'm really hoping they keep him, and let the rookies fight for the other spots ...

Didn't read the article yet but without his bat we'd be in a hairy spot. We need all the good AB's we can get if Uribe shows up:eek:

So much for signing Ichrio.

Nah, seriously, I'd love to see JD come back.

not to bring up the "clubhouse" element, but Jermaine certainly brings leadership to the table. You simply can't put a price on that. The Sox better be thinking long-term, and not dollars and cents.

Dye's attitude is exactly what every fan hopes for. I hope we keep him happy. He is a crutial part of this team, to say the least.

Look at his direct quote, where he mentions he wants fair market value and that he took less money to be here, but if thats what it takes. The SOX should lock him up 2 more years ........option on 3rd below market

I remember after that first month in 05 when he was terrible, everyone was saying what a bad signing it was

We also need him for some major street cred.

And 140 RBIs

yup, I was one of them. I thought he was done, his injury and time off would be too much to come back from. Jermaine was darned awful in April and May, but I remember right before the 05 season began, the SOX played that Exhibition game against the Brewers in Milwaukee, we were staying at a hotel around the corner from the SOX and we decided to have some brewskis at the SOX hotel. Of course, a bunch of the SOX players were in there, and I started chatting with our now Ex-Broadcaster John Rooney. He asked me how I felt about the team was I excited, I said there were lots of question marks, but this was the most balanced they've been in years. I said I was VERY SKEPTICAL of Jermaine Dye, and Rooney couldn't stop gushing about the signing. He said don't you worry, JD was going to turn out to be the best signing (AJ was too actually) when all was said and done.

Rooney was right .........

I went to one of those exhibition games. My Wisc. friends were wondering what the hell Raul Casenova (sp?) was doing catching the game. haha. I was too drunk to figure it out. Cold and wet that day was.

Raul Casanova is the catcher in any game in which you don't know the catcher.

"Who's that catching?" someone asks.

The answer is always, "Raul Casanova."

Or Jim Sundberg.

Excellent! Not only is he our team MVP, but he's the league MVP in my book! You can't get any better than the contributions JD brings both on and off the field. He is a class act through and through.

It doesn't really matter what Dye says, though it's better than the war of words Williams has with most players. In the end, it will be whether JR is willing to crack open the checkbook for a player in his mid-30s when he may decide his "outfield of the future" (which, for him, is more importantly a league-minimum "outfield of the present") is ready to take over.

^^^

That's pretty much what I was going to say.

As a corner outfielder, Dye puts up really solid #'s. Last year's #'s very more than solid---they were great. But the name of the game is value. Is RF where we need a 30/100/.300 guy for big time bucks? Probably not. We can probably find ONE person in our system to put up comparable #'s. However, if Dye establishes he is the man he was in '06 (I have my doubts, but I'm very hopeful), then he's the guy to go to.

And whatever ends up happening, goddamn it's nice to see a guy who's happy with the money he's getting and puts loyalty above a 10% pay raise (because millions or not, what Magglio, for instance, ended up taking over us was like a 10% raise:jagoff: )
