Rapes and sexaul assaults don't make the news unless they are in upscale neighborhoods.

I went to the Northside for the first time ever on Saturday. While I'll admit I didn't exactly get the full north side experience (all we did was stop by Wicker Park fest and then went to a house party), I don't think I'd ever go back. The south side is a little more my style.
Zoso and co., how do you deal with those north side jags every day? I wanted to punch every one of them.

I would prefer to not live on the northside again. The people aren't necessarily so bad it's just crowded as all hell. And you were also at Wicker Park fest on Saturday?! We both were there.

There were a fair share of "hipsters" at this event.
I just ignore the people, generally, and chat up the crew I attended with. Drinks, shopping, Pasadita, can't complain.
I bought a really fly pair of sunglasses there. They are gold with faded yellow lenses. They look like i should be playing tennis in them.

I was at wicker park fest last night and saw High on Fire. Then went to some bar that had Big Lebowski on. At first the sound was off and they were playing music, but they later just went with Lebowski.

The North side is a good deal better than the south side. The only thing that sucks about living up here is the traffic. I think those dirty looks were in your head. A lot of people around there dress like weirdos and it's fun to laugh at them but I don't think anybody really cares who wears what. Wicker is definitely the artsy neighborhood where you'll see the plaid pants and the strange hats and whatever the fuck the kids are wearing these days. I love that neighborhood though. Everything considered--bars, food, location--it's probably my favorite.

I've lived South and North. I personally think North is way better except for traffic and pizza. Public trans is better. Food and bars are better. Taxis are plentiful.
And contrary to belief there are neighborhoods like Roscoe Village, Lincoln Square, North Center, Ravenswood, West Lakeview and Andersonville with 'normal' people that aren't hipsters, frat boys or trixies.

My buddy just bought a condo there, half block east of Clark, a pretty good location. I have another that bought one 2 years ago. You can still get a pretty good deal.

Wrigleyville is rapist heaven: lots of idiots walking home alone drunk at 2 a.m., because they've been brainwashed into thinking that they're "safe," stats be damned.
N Side blows, except for the older neighborhoods, which are essentially indistinguishable from the S Side. (ducks) Unfortunately, they're gradually being overrun by hipsters.
S Side has tons of quality ethnic food. Mexican, Soul, Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Lithuanian, Greek, Arab, etc. Most of the other stuff (including Russian, Japanese, etc.) can be had between here and Madison (including the South Loop and the southern part of the Loop).
The only foods requiring a trip to the N Side IMHO are Indian, Korean, German, Swedish, and probably Thai. But who give a crap about Korean, German, and Swedish?

I'm pretty boring when it comes to food. Pizza, dogs, polish, beef, fried chicken, Italian. That's my take out diet. Sub sandwiches too. All that other weird stuff I don't eat (Korean, Indian, whatever). So the no Indian food argument really doesn't work with me.
Oh yeah, south sides better because of the Irish parade and the White Sox. North side has the gay pride parade and the Cubs.

Red Apple on N Milwaukee is just as good.
True, but that's not the issue. You said that N Side ethnic food is somehow better and that's just silly, unless you're definition of "ethnic food" is limited to a small number of Asian countries. The S Side easily wins most numbers games, because it's a lot bigger than the N Side.
The problem with these conversations is that most N Siders haven't seen much (or any) of the S Side and most S Siders haven't seen much (or any) of the N Side. It's like listening to some douchebag New Yorker talking about how their favorite ___ restaurant is the best in the city / country / world or listening to somebody without a passport talking about how a certain Italian restaurant is "really authentic." I mean, how the heck would they know?
Can you recommend me some good Southside restaurants?
What kind of food do you like? Bridgeport alone has multiple Mexican places, Italian places, Chinese places, diner-esque places, a Lithuanian place, etc.

I grew up in the south suburbs all my life and I lived in Oak Lawn for a few years, too. I never actually lived in south Chicago but I calls it likes I sees it. I do favor the Asian side of things admittedly and the North Side dominates that end of the spectrum.

Okay, I'll add a third category: people who grew up in the suburbs but spent little time in the city and call everything north of Roosevelt "downtown." The worst among them are people from the S and SW 'burbs who claim that they are from the "South Side."
Yes, Lithuanian place = "Healthy Food" on Halsted.
As you can imagine, Chinatown has multiple good places for Chinese, a good divey place for Pho (2336 S. Wentworth), and other Asian restaurants that I haven't tried.
The reason I try to narrow restaurant recommendations is that Chicago definitely is a Top 4 restaurant city in the US (arguably #1). There are tons of good restaurants on the N Side, on the S Side, and in certain suburbs. I probably could come up with 20 or more good places in the city and 'burbs that serve varieties of Italian food. I imagine there are at least 20 more that I've never even tried.
The lthforum guys dine out far more often than I do, but I suspect that most of them would admit that they've only hit the tip of the iceberg. They're always on the lookout for hidden gems in non-hipster 'hoods and have no trouble finding them.

I'll describe Healthy Food and let you decide. The interior is old-school-diner-esque with a Lithuanian theme--complete with lunch counter, pie case, and what used to be a phone booth. The owner usually is present and working the room. The waitresses dress "ethnic." Most of them are legit, off-the-boat Lithuanians. The food is what you'd expect from E Europe: heavy, meat-and-dumpling oriented. The national specialty is kugilis, which is interesting but not very tasty IMO--kind of a potato and bacon custard. I recommend the cheese dumplings.
It's also a good spot for breakfast. Not particularly cheap, but quality coffee / ingredients and an eclectic crowd. Sometimes you can get real potato pancakes.
My favorite b'fast spot is the Bridgeport Restaurant on 35th / Halsted. Same eclectic crowd. Even more of a diner feel. Good food, dirt cheap. The "big man" breakfast special is like 3 plates of food for about $5. Nice place to load up before a Sunday day game.

In the past 3.5 months, the Wrigleyville Rapist has attacked 5 women. The cops arrested (http://www.nbc5.com/news/13818028/detail.html?dl=headlineclick) a guy who was trying to use a victim's credit cards.
Meanwhile, the Wrigleyville Robber also has emerged. The CPD has issued a community alert re. a guy who approaches a Chad or a Trixie who is walking alone, pulls out a silver handgun, and demands their money and other valuables.
Both offenses are spreading into Lincoln Park.
