Alberto Gonzalez canceled his travel plans today, and has scheduled a press conference for 2:00pm EDT today.

His chief-of-staff resigned yesterday over the prosecutor purge scandal, so is Gonzalez next? And if that's true, is Karl Rove far behind?

Looks like he's going to make Leahy and the Senate impeach his ass. That's going to be a bloody battle.

Worst...attorney...ever.

Linole Hutz would be a better attorney general.

Works on retainer? No, money down!

I don't know. All I know is that Alberto Gonzales is a bad man. Seriously, I doubt he has a soul.

Stockdale, what's going on with your heroes????

p.s. Rove's "blame Clinton" tactic is so outrageously pathetic and lame, not too mention way off base. Should still get play on cable news ad nauseum though.

yeah but aren't firings like these common to all administrations?

Not that I know of.

Administrations do bring in their own teams of attorneys, but there is increasing proof that these firings were politically motivated because of certain attorneys' unwillingness to railroad investigative inquiries.

I can't speak for the precedent of all previous administrations, but this is definitely not some generally accepted practice.

Rudy won't make it out of the primaries. The GOP voters in the hillbilly states thought McCain was too liberal in 2000. Why would they vote for the former mayor of New York City (pronounced using voice from Pace Picante Sauce commercial).

Thank you for that political insight.

If Rudy does win the GOP nod, he'll get butchered on his affair, his business dealings, and most importantly, the mistakes he made on 9/11.

He'd make a much better VP than Pres. Hell, he makes a much better Senator than either. He took up Senator Paul Wellstone's mantel as the fervent defender of the "little guy" who takes everything a step too far. Then, he "compromises" to the level things should be at and makes it feel like he did you a favor.

That is a good approach for lawyering and the Senate, but a tough act to sell as Pres.

In South Carolina, Bush Republicans were facing an opponent who was popular for his straight talk and Vietnam war record. They knew that if McCain won in South Carolina, he would likely win the nomination. With few substantive differences between Bush and McCain, the campaign was bound to turn personal. The situation was ripe for a smear.

It didn't take much research to turn up a seemingly innocuous fact about the McCains: John and his wife, Cindy, have an adopted daughter named Bridget. Cindy found Bridget at Mother Theresa's orphanage in Bangladesh, brought her to the United States for medical treatment, and the family ultimately adopted her. Bridget has dark skin.

Anonymous opponents used "push polling" to suggest that McCain's Bangladeshi born daughter was his own, illegitimate black child.

I find it amusing that the story makes me have a little more respect for McCain while his own party probably sees it as a problem for him.
