I dont see why this is a surprise. This happens every year. We start off like shit cause we are giving young hitters and pitchers a chance to show their stuff and see how far along they have come. As spring training moves along more of these kids will be reassigned to their MiLB teams and our starting position players and starting pitchers will see more action thus netting us more wins.
Year after year we start like this but end up at around 500. For now the important this is pitchers building up arm strength, working on location and hitters finding their stroke, working on their batting eye. Lets not forget about fielders working on D.
As far as fun goes....this is fun! Were getting a much closer look at players like Getz, Lopez, Danks, Gio, Broadway, Russell, Valido to name a few. I think it alot of fun seeing what the future might hold.

It's Spring Training and the Sox are still evaluating the players they have, trying to get frontrunners for jobs. They're not interesting in winning games at this point. That's why things like O. Perez giving up 4 unearned runs in the 9th thanks to poor fielding by Pedro Lopez (who and who? Exactly.) don't really matter come opening day.
As for players we'll actually see:
Contreras pitched 4.2 innings and gave up two runs.
Thome had 2 Home Runs and 4 RBI
Uribe hit a solo shot, went 1-2 and is hitting .320
Dye went 2-3
Konerko grounded into 2 DPs and left 5 on base
Aardsma ate balls giving up 4ER in 2IP (11.18 ERA this spring)
Iguchi continues to enjoy his vacation going 0-3 and hitting .083 this spring

Anyone who pays attention to anything other than individual performances in preseason games in any sport is a damned fool.
