I keep hearing, reading.seeing on TV how Chicago is such a huge Cubs Town.
Personally..I don't get it. I would like to see some evidence. Most people I know from Chicago are SOX FANS...this includes quite a few people who live on the Northside.
I think the Cubs are much more popular OUTSIDE of Chicago and this is where the misconception is that Chicagoans love the Cubs..I work downtown and random things on people's desks..talking to people, etc..probably 2 out of 3 are Sox fans.
I have a theory..since Wrigley has become such a tourist destination the last two decades..about 60 percent of those who now go to Cubs games ARE NOT FROM CHICAGO. Since the only other option for Chicago citizens was to go to a Sox game..I think for the last few years more people have grown up Sox fans since the own citizens of Chicago were crowded out of Wrigley by trendy tourists.
To me Chicago is a SOX TOWN. The Midwest is a CUBS REGION...people who grew up in Chicago almost always seem to be Sox fans.
I just wish the media would realize this and stop referring to Chicago as a Cubs town because it really isn't.
