Frank Thomas made his first appearance for the Blue Jays, going 1-for-3 with an RBI Thursday in a "B" game against the Phillies.
"I prefer to start late like this because you know what you're doing out there," said Thomas, who signed an $18.12 million, two-year contract this offseason. "You've had enough BP, enough cage work to know what you're doing out there."
Thomas is scheduled to be a designated hitter in Friday's "A" game against the Astros.

Frank is a great ball player and I will never take that from him but he is a whiny fuckin cry-baby.
He whined like a little bitch after the Sox opted out.
He whined about his deferred money that was in his contract that he signed.
He has whined about his contracts that he signed.
He whined about the Sox exercizing the Diminished skills claus after he had been plagued by injuries and couldnt stay in the lineup. Funny how he never complained about getting paid to do nothing.
He whined about how he paid 90G per year in proporty taxes after his divorce.
Again, he is a great baseball player but I have no sympathy, compassion or patience for a muli million dollar a year player that whines and cries like a little bitch.:D

I also thought it was lame from an otherwise solid poster. We've heard that rant a million times over the years, so lame is about all anyone has left for that.
Just offering some reasoning as to why Thomas doesnt have the respect of all Sox fans and seeing as how this thread is about Thomas it would be the logical place for that rant.

maybe if you did it rationally, but you call him a "whiny fucking crybaby" and accuse him of "whining like a bitch" about things that have more to do with shitty management and a lack of respect the organization had for him than anything rational.
That post was essentially what Mariotti would write if he posted on this messageboard: accusing Frank about "whining" about things but not presenting the facts for why he might have felt slighted.

Well..... if not ALL sox fans respect Frank Thomas, it is a shame. He is the greatest hitter of his time, the greatedt hitter in Sox franchise history and is a first-ballot HOFer. Who cares if he shot his mouth off about his contract or the general manager... FT was always good to the fans and was the best baseball player this sox fan ever witnessed.

I wasnt accusing Frank of whining. I heard Frank whining on the tv and read his quotes in the papers. The things I said are based on these facts and not one of them has anything to do with your favorite sports writer either. This goes back long before he ever left the Sox. You do watch tv and read the papers right?:D
IMO, the reason he is a whiner is because he didnt handle his business like a professional and take up his beef with management behind closed doors. Instead he whines and cries to the public trying to get sympathy from the fans to help his situation. I wasnt happy about his "poor me" routine.
This sounds like a really fun topic to argue over and I have all afternoon so now its your turn my friend!:)

In my book, Thomas put up HOF numbers for the better part of 15 years with the only exceptions being caused by injury. He helped put us back on the map after the bleak late 80s and was the main cog in one of the better overall runs in Sox history (1990-2005 era record-wise). Could he have been a nicer guy or more sensitive to racial issues or better with the media or less vocal about his gripes? Yes. But he's just a flawed human being like anyone else, not some virtuous role model/hero to us fans. To me none of that side stuff matters. But it does to you and lot of other people and that's fine, we all have our opinions...but I'll always say it's lame. What he did on the field speaks for itself.
Im not denying his HOF numbers and I would vote him in my-self. As I said I cant stand it when Thomas (athletes in general) cry about "poor me" when they make millions per year. I just cant respect someone who's like that it is all. Thats all I had to say about it and got it off my chest until "fq" chimed in with his most insightful POV. At least you have some insite as to why you disagree and thats cool with me. Im not trying to convince anyone otherwise.

I understand what you're saying but the thing is if I have a beef I take it up with that person and that person only. When I want a raise from my boss I go to him and say whats on my mind and thats it. I dont look for support from other people I work with cause its not their business. I handle my business and if I dont like what the boss has to say then I either suck it up and deal with it or I can go get another job to better my self which is something I have done in the past. Thats just how I do things is all and thats why I frown on Thomas as a person.

Point made... but I disagree with your willingness to disrespect the man simply because he made a few gripes publically. A lot of the bullshit we heard about and saw on TV with FT & management was perpetuated by the northside-biased sports media in Chicago, who wants to paint every story in cubbie-blue.
To me, its as if you are condemning a straight-A student for being late to class. FT aways got a pass from me.
Did you ever hear about Frank Thomas beating his wife? Did he ever get a DUI, get arrested for carrying unregistered firearms in the glovebox of his SUV? Throw a cellphone at a fan in the stands? Cork his bat? Use performance enhancing drugs???
.....
Didn't think so.
Our opinions of how to judge the man and not the player may vary, but the fact remains that Frank Thomas is a high-character athlete and is the greatest baseball player Chicago has ever seen.
End of discussion (for me at least)...

DaleJr. What does the Chub biased have anything to do with Thomas standing in front of a tv camera whining about the things I've already described? I heard with my own ears and seen with my own eyes. Chub biased didnt open his mouth like a puppet and make him say what he had to say. Again he is responsible for his own actions and no one else is to blame.

What they have in common, however, are some big flaws. But you never heard about Jordan's, did you? His gambling addiction, his womanizing...Thomas didn't have any of those--and others that Jr pointed out, which are true flaws--yet one is a saint and the other is an ogre. Go figure.

Frank was a superstar and thus he was put on a pedestal much like a Michael Jordan. The difference between the two is the latter was political and image-conscious. Frank was never like that, it's just not in his character. What they have in common, however, are some big flaws. But you never heard about Jordan's, did you? You just answered your own question man. Jordan handled his affairs behind closed doors and even when info was leaked he still handled it like a professional. Not once did he cry to the fans and try and get their support on a personal issue. If he was wrong on something he admitted to it like a man rather whining like a baby.
You guys are making me laugh when you continue to bring up points about what Thomas did as a player. For the 3rd time now, I dont deny what Thomas did for the team and the org. Not once have I said anything bad what he has done for the White Sox. Thats not at all what Im talking about.

Wait... let me get this straight... You disregard Frank Thomas and are unable to "respect" him as a man because he publically bitched about his contract, yet you defend Michael Jordan for cheating on his wife, being a compulsive gambler, etc... but keeping it hidden and off the 9 o'clock news and "doing it for the organization"??
So if I cheat on my wife, gamble away zillions of dollars and get run out of my professional sports league for two years as a result, but have kept it quiet, I have earned your respect in the process?

I do recall after a certain now 3b for the Yankees inked a 25mil a year deal and having a fairly decent season the first in years a Mr. Frank Thomas bitch to the Chicago media how he felt he was under paid. How the White Sox should have given him a raise.. How was that the Cubs media spinning that? I heard it from his own mouth?
I am by far the biggest Thomas backer.. for his production on the field, AS Luc said, he used the media to try and get Sox mangment to give him more money.. it backfire. He should have kept that stuff behind closed doors like a professional.

I do think the idea that Jordan didn't "retire" - and that he was actually suspended for 2 years for gambling (which Stern covered up because he was the NBA's most popular player) and that his father was murdered in connection with Jordan's gambling debt is pretty intriguing.
Not saying it's true. Not saying it's my business, but it's still intriguing as shit.
