How come they don't drive in the rain?

It would seem that since they are professional drivers, they should be able to adjust. Also, it is dangerous enough driving in the race in the beginning, how is it any more dangerous just because its raining?

Wouldn't the water make the track kind of slick? Seems like the rain would make it more dangerous.

Couldn't they drive slower?

I suppose, but who the hell wants to watch that?

The reason is that they drive on slick tires, thus no traction whatsoever on a wet surface. Hate Nascar!
Any F1 fans out there? One of the most amazing races today at the Canada GP.

That is kind of my point.

If it is a skill to handle a car in dry conditions at 200 mph, why not show off the skill of handling the car in rain at 100 mph?

It's almost an impossiblity to drive on slicks in the rain. Driver skill does not play into it. But, it would be interesting to put rain tires on the cars and drive. They're only going around in circles anyway.

Isn't NASCAR a waste of resources, oil and whatnot?

F1 races in the rain. They also race in the rain about half the speed of normal racing conditions. It is also extremely unsafe, considering NASCAR uses racing slicks and not tredded tires. NASCAR stock cars are also not equiped with lights or wipers. F1 racers hardly ever come close to each other except for the occasional pass. NASCAR racers frequently beat and bang on each other and for the most part are fractions of seconds apart from one another going 200+ mph.

for example, the banking on most of the NASCAR tracks when wet would be down right frightening no matter how great the tires and the drivers' wet racing ability. Would you want to enter a turn at 200 mph in a downpour? Today's race is a perfect example. Pocono, where the cars reaching 210-215 mph at the end of the front stretch and slow to 165 in less than 100 feet to enter turn one... in the rain??? No thanks.

The cars AND tracks of NASCAR were and are designed for dry-pavement racing. That's how its gonna be.

by the way, without having to individually respond to all of the brainless posts in the thread... here's a one-for-all...

There's a lot of ignorant and stupid comments in this thread.

thanks, bye.

Not you. I'm the last person on earth to run into the forest and start hugging trees, but I also can't understand NASCAR's resistence to at least exploring Ethenol or other hybrid fuels.

I think their issue is that they don't want the teams to have to spend millions reengineering their enhine programs around a new fuel type.

Is it true, that the Nascar version in South America, they drive in the Opposite Direction?

F1 and CART will race in the rain unless it's a heavy downpour, but ya gotta wonder why. If you ever saw an on-board camera of what the driver is seeing it's nuts because you can't see squat because the tires just rooster-tail any water on the road right into the path of the car behind them. Even at reduced speeds it's dangerous.

They also use the equivalent of starscream to try and dry the tracks with jet fuel and yer complaining about regular high octane fuel?

you're fucking kidding me, right? Give me a fucking break.

They use those all-so-harmful-to-the-environment jetdryers (the ones at Daytona were built by my former roommate avionics engineer when he went to ERAU) for all of 45 seconds to blow debris out of the bankings onto the aprons after wrecks and of course during rain delays.

How many rain delays are expected or actually occur? How many actual hours of runtime do said jetdryers see during a racing season? How many gallons of Sunoco are burned during qualitying, practice, race day... non-sanctioned testing sessions, etc., throughout the course of a 36 race season? Do the math as to how much jet fuel is burned by jetdryers versus the amount of gasoline burned by the carburated 350s... then draw some kind of comparison.

I was gonna go with RandyCoutureFan, but thats way too fucking long.

He actually doesn't like racing, that's actually his real name.

Actually, when I registered at WSI, I was watching a NASCAR race and couldn't think of a screen name... so I just went with DaleJrFan.

I don't have a gaay nickname like Zoso or Chips.... so I had to pull something out of my ass.

Yeah and also you only joined because your dad knows PHG. We know you're a tad cooler than us. :)

Yea, I was told "you gotta join this cool site that this guy I know started"

Little did I know it would be overrun by assholes who got picked on as kids and that I would be banned for absolutely nothing.

Fuck WSI. PHG is ok, I guess. :)
