Got to watch the whole game yesterday, and I think Fields is the real deal ....... his play at 3b was pretty darned good, making a fantastic play on a line-drive that the Cub announcers were forced to admit was a great play.

So was I, very much so.

How about Valido? Not much at the plate yesterday but showed a good glove at SS.

Fields had a fairly decent day at the plate.

too bad he wont play unless an injury occurs

that's not too bad. that's a good thing---it means not only do we have a guy who's better than fields starting, we have a capable replacement waiting in case something bad happens

He should be playing at 2008, once we deal Crede.

I agree. I think he could start now if we had the room for him.

Ok, sounds good to me. We may have to run it by MLB first. Nevermind, fuck em who cares.:D

Fields looked awesome out there yesterday!! When he made that amazing play at third, the Cubs announcers not only admitted it was good, but refered to it as Crede-esque, which I'd have to agree with. This was the ONLY thing I agreed on with those two. If Crede doesn't return upon becoming a free agent after the 2008 season, I think the future at the Hot Corner looks pretty bright!

I think Crede will be gone sometime during next winter. I dont think KW lets him fly the coop in FA. KW wants to get something in return.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I was watching him play third, and honestly, he wouldn't be much of a downgrade from Joe Crede. It's not the great diving play he made, but he made a lot of tough plays look routine.

Oh, and he can swing the lumber a bit, too.

If the Sox were to lose or deal Crede, I could definitely deal with Josh Fields at 3B. He's a real good looking prospect and has all the tools to become a player at least as good if not better than Joe Crede.

word to the wise however....give him time once he cracks the starting line up. It took Joe Crede a long time to become Joe Crede ...you know what I'm saying?

It took Joe several years to get his game (read bat) ready for the big league level. He really came of age in 2005.

yes but untill he plays, he only has potential, he needs to prove himself in full season play. Hell, everyone said "hey we got rowand, we got anderson in the minors, we're set and anderson couldnt hit his face with his own fist. Hell look at our pitching, we always said we had rauch, wright, mccarthy, etc. But they produced very little when we put them in

yeah but we're not starting him. he's a backup. it's ok for a backup (who will likely not play this year) to have potential....it's not necessarily ok for a starter to have potential

Yes but will he start is the issue. By the time he does start will he be ready? We kept waiting on rauch and then we ended up waiting too long

huh ?

Fields has been a prospect for us for 2 - 3 seasons. He has improved each year. You gotta be the only Sox fan who doesn't believe the guy is major league ready. I don't think we are going to get "Crede-esque" offensive numbers from him (actually, last year was the first time we got good offense from Crede), but he's definitely ready to start his major league career. What's with the comparison to Jon Rauch? What does how the Sox handled him have to do with Josh Fields' potential or performance ?

exactly. jon rauch had a major injury that caused him to lose velocity and command.....it wasn't really a case of "development"

Make that 1/2... I would like to see him work on reducing his K's more down at Triple-A.. There is no need to rush him up here..just because he looked good in Sept and during ST.

he has some things to work on. K's is definitely one, and I'm still not sold on his defense...but he's a prospect and it may be 2 years before we even need him.

1 Year.. I can't see KW letting Crede go for Draft picks.. and still want to compete in 09 time.

Exactly. Crede is getting ready to play his last season as a White Sox.

Personally, I 'm with whoever said that they still want to win in 2008. We need to keep 2 players out of the group of Iguchi, Dye and Buerhle set for FA next year to do that; because we are going to have a potfull of new pitchers in 2009, if the pitching staff is not used for trade bait sooner.

Trading away Crede for SS, CF and top of the order prospects will free up some salary (combined with the salary of whoever we don't bring back) to do that; and build up the farm system. Josh Fields has been in our minor league system since 2004 (3 years) and will spend 2007 there. He looks real good for Crede's replacement.

Can we win this year first? Just one more WS before we dismantle?

PLEEEEEEEZZZZZ!
