View Full Version : Personal reasons you won't vote for a specific candidate?

During the last presidential election, I held a grudge against Gen. Wesley Clark because my brother was at the ready during the whole Priština International Airport affair. Thinking back to that, I am wondering if other people have similar issues with the current batch of presidential hopefuls?
Maybe your friend died in the war, so you don't like candidates that voted for the war, or you lost your job due to cuts to a specific program, or maybe the candidate is a Cubs fan (an obvious sign of a lack of good judgment, IMO) or one of the candidates railed your sister, whatever... do you have a personal reason not to vote for someone?

My personal reason is that I find most of them to be egomaniacal sociopaths. That's difficult to vote for.

After Gore and Kerry campaigned so poorly that they lost to a retarded chimp with low approval ratings, I hate them both very much thank you. I never liked Kerry, but always felt that Gore probably would be a decent POTUS.
After McCain started kissing fundamentalist ass after they raped him in the 2000 primary, I really have no clue what he stands for any more and therefore would have a hard time voting for him. Before this happened, I would have voted for him over pretty much any other candidate.
After she freaked out over the whole socialized medicine fiasco when her husband was POTUS, I can't get over the feeling that Hillary Clinton is pinko commie in sheep's clothing. It's possible that her views have evolved since then, that her more recent political statements reflect her genuine feelings, and that she'd govern like Bill . . . but I'm still not buying it. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Because they're all megalomaniacs who think they are Elvis, but they are not.

I'm still kinda carrying the torch for Gore even after his global warming hard sell.
I think had he won that election in 2000, things would look a lot better than they do now. Of course we'd have no real way of knowing that, but Gore would be one of smartest presidents we've ever had - as opposed to the not-so-smart doof we have in office now.

I'm not voting for any of the Corporate Drones in Mainstream American Politics...

I won't vote for any candidate who does not feel that we need to come up with an exit strategy for Iraq. (most Republicans)
I won't vote for any candidate who does not place the restoration of civil liberties at or at least very close to the top of their priority list. (Almost everyone.)
I won't vote for any candidate who campaigns by providing misinformation to potential voters. (An extra "fuck you" goes to Giuliani and McCain.)
...
Oh, screw it. If Paul doesn't pull off a miracle or if someone equally impressive doesn't show up and take the election by storm, I'm not voting. Or maybe I'll write in "No Confidence."
