I heard Phil Niekro on the radio this morning, discussing, among other things, knuckleballers. When asked why no one seems to be coming up as a knuckleballer these days, he said part of the reason was that there is no one to teach it. Wasn't Haeger getting some pointers/tutelage from Niekro at one point, or did I imagine that?

I have no idea, but Charlie Haeger is destined to be around forever as the next Wakefield or Charlie Hough, just based on his name--Charlie Hager. Doesn't that just sound like a knuckleballer? It's a real throwback kind of name.

Good point. I can easily see a guy like my grandpa sitting around talking about the ol' knuckleballer Charlie Haeger.

Never really thought about it but his name does have an old school ring to it. Hope he can stick around for a while and do some damage.

I propose we all wear Haagar slacks to games that he starts in the future.

Haegar had a very GOOD outing yesterday ............
I think the SOX need to consider him for the bullpen as our Long Starter .....
someone who can keep us in games when Buehrle blows it and gives up 6 in the 1st .......... or when Vazquez gets shelled and is out by the 3rd .......

Agreed. Knucklers are excellent in that role.

I don't remember, but he DID get pointers from Wakefield . . . an active player in an opposing AL org. Such is the Brotherhood of the Knuckler.
