I spent the weekend in New Orleans, just got back late last nite.
It was a blast to say the least. Most of the weekend, I wore one of my SOX shirts or jacket, and it was funny to run into SOX fans in the French Quarter. I met with a group of young ladies who were working with the Habitat for Humanity project from Illinois and Chicago area. They were SOX fans and spotted me from across the street and yelled GO WHITE SOX!

They told me there were 2 male cub fans in their group who had been behaving pompously the whole trip. I saw these bozos later, and let them have it of course at the bar pretty hilarious (they didnt realize the Cubs have only 3 90win seasons since 1950-Thought attendance was more important in determining how good a team is) They were nice enough guys, just not too knowledgable about baseball heh heh. A couple from Baton Rouge overheard us insulting each other and were laughing the whole time. I said goodbye to the cubby clowns, and the couple said they didnt realize there was such a rivalry. I told them it a bit like a college football rivalry like they have (they had LSU stuff on), but I told them it was moreso
because the Chicago Media loves them and dislikes the SOX for many years, and thats why the SOX fans have risen up. They said it made sense ....
I quickly pointed out the general records of the 2 teams, and they were flabbergasted that the other team gets as much attention as they do.

I was walking around on Bourbon St, when a guy (PeterKat from another board) asked if I was from Chicago. I said I was, he said he was a huge SOX fan, and we started talking about the trades, I told him why I didnt like the Garcia trade and we had a good time. I told him about this board, and he told me he didnt hang out as much on that other board, I explained he doesnt have to worry about expressing his SOX opinions here, FREEDOM OF SPEECH is spoken here. He asked what my name was on the other boards, and of course small world, he was like oh man, I know who you are
very cool Bourbon Moment. I told him lets walk around, we get about a block away ............ and in one of the bars, the band starts to Play "Dont Stop Believin", we turned and laughed out loud.

The singer is singing the song .......... Dont Stop Believin, and he looks at me with my SOX stuff on, and it dawned on him a second later SOX Fan+ DontStopBelievin+05 world series theme ............. He gave the thumbs up mid-verse, and after ward mentions "chicago white sox fans in the house"
we cheered of course, a Yankee fan booed from behind me, pretty funny

I think a good idea for a show on the Travel Channel would be to send Hangar throughout the world and see how many Cubbie Clowns he can steamroll with his wit. :omg:

Nobody rubs elbows with Sox/Cubs fans like Hangar. Nobody.

Tell them about the time you ran over a Cub fan with your CAR in the French Quarter: He shouted "what's your problem man?"

I said, "look at the standings."

Did I miss something?

....when the singer realized what shirt I was wearing and what song he was singing, he laughed at the timing. After the song, he mentioned SOX fans being in the house, which my buds cheered and a couple of Yankee fans playfully booed us

It's nice to be on the road and see Yankee fans and, well, everyone but St. Louis fans and be able to say "you've waited longer than us."

I was in Austin last summer and made a point to bring Sox gear to wear every single day while down there. Someone at the conferenece I attended there made a comment the monday after the Astros series last June to the effect of "Oh! We beat you last night!" Immediately I said "Oh! Not only did we beat you in the other two games of the series, but we also SWEPT you in the World Series!" It sure is fun being a Sox fan these days.

How pathetic of them. Bragging about the one time they did beat us in the entire decade going back to 2000, Iguchi tied the game with a grand slam and we almost won that, too. Good grief, the stupidity.

I'll give a couple of people credit down there though. I was at a restaurant there watching the Sox beat Pittsburgh on that next Tuesday night wearing my Paul Konerko authentic jersey with my WS05 patch on one sleeve and my WS Champs patch on the other sleeve. All servers were allowed to wear hats for their MLB team, and my server was wearing an Astros hat. Both he and the manager conceeded that the Sox beat them fair and square and congratulated me, as well as the rest of our fanbase, for dominating them. It was great to hear.
