I spent the weekend in New Orleans, just got back late last nite.
It was a blast to say the least. Most of the weekend, I wore one of my SOX shirts or jacket, and it was funny to run into SOX fans in the French Quarter. I met with a group of young ladies who were working with the Habitat for Humanity project from Illinois and Chicago area. They were SOX fans and spotted me from across the street and yelled GO WHITE SOX!
They told me there were 2 male cub fans in their group who had been behaving pompously the whole trip. I saw these bozos later, and let them have it of course at the bar pretty hilarious (they didnt realize the Cubs have only 3 90win seasons since 1950-Thought attendance was more important in determining how good a team is) They were nice enough guys, just not too knowledgable about baseball heh heh. A couple from Baton Rouge overheard us insulting each other and were laughing the whole time. I said goodbye to the cubby clowns, and the couple said they didnt realize there was such a rivalry. I told them it a bit like a college football rivalry like they have (they had LSU stuff on), but I told them it was moreso
because the Chicago Media loves them and dislikes the SOX for many years, and thats why the SOX fans have risen up. They said it made sense ....
I quickly pointed out the general records of the 2 teams, and they were flabbergasted that the other team gets as much attention as they do.
I was walking around on Bourbon St, when a guy (PeterKat from another board) asked if I was from Chicago. I said I was, he said he was a huge SOX fan, and we started talking about the trades, I told him why I didnt like the Garcia trade and we had a good time. I told him about this board, and he told me he didnt hang out as much on that other board, I explained he doesnt have to worry about expressing his SOX opinions here, FREEDOM OF SPEECH is spoken here. He asked what my name was on the other boards, and of course small world, he was like oh man, I know who you are
very cool Bourbon Moment. I told him lets walk around, we get about a block away ............ and in one of the bars, the band starts to Play "Dont Stop Believin", we turned and laughed out loud.
