They just gave out the Cubs Fax # to the radio booth and I was thinking of sending them something.

It's 773-244-3971.

Any ideas?

Pat: Well Ronnie, we've got a fax here from a Hangar18 in Chicago,
Ron: Hangar18? Is that an airport?
Pat: No, Ronnie must be a moniker of some sort
Ron: How do you spell moniker?
Pat: M, O, N, I K E R I believe. But the Fax from Hangar18, says Hey Fellas, why do you always get off the subject when it comes to the ballgame?
Ron: Thats a fine sounding word. Look at these great fans Pat .....

ha! that was pretty dead on.

You have to admit though, Farmer does the same exact thing. It's just that his stories are funny.

Pat Hughes is a DAMN good baseball broadcaster... better than anyone employed by the Sox.

As for a fax message, how about:

Why is it that whenever a player comes to play for the Cubs, his tools and skills are immediately diminished? Let's use Cesar Izturis as an example. He is a gold glove shortstop, but now as a Cub, he makes 3 consecutive errors. Is this is curse of the billy goat?

If it were between Pat Hughes and John Rooney, I'd have to flip a coin.

That said, I almost have to feel sorry for Pat having to put up with Ron all these years. Put anyone else with him and they'd be the best announcing duo in the city.

i dunno---rooney was the man. pat hughes is solid, but he's no rooney. of course this is all subjective.

still: ROONEY RULES. It's not like Farmer is much better than dorf

I may be in the minority here, but I like listening to Santo & Hughes. I wouldn't listen to a Cubs game in the first place if not for them. Some of the rambling crap that Santo says is really hilarious, like when he went on and on about how he would really like to meet somebody named "Ned Den" because his name forwards would be the same backwards. I don't like them the way Cubs fans like them (although Hughes is a damn good announcer) but I don't mind listening to them.

That was probably wrong of me. I will give myself a week off to think about it.

I'm with you BFC. I listen to them at work when the White Sox aren't on.

There's a show on WGN that plays a highlight real of sorts every week of the dumb shit Santo says. Sunday night at 10 or so.

Yea, I'm sure we are all a little biased towards Rooney (http://rope.espnradio1000.com/sc/soxrooney_montage.wma).

I think he is a pretty good broadcaster, but the talent he has, its brought down a few notches being paired with Santo, who easily has to be one of the worst (unprofessional) announcers out there. The only thing I like about Santo, is his take on the opposition teams players, etc.

I think the funniest thing ive heard during a cubs broadcast was during spring training, when for some reason, the score didnt carry the game, so i had to listen to them.

Hughes- "Here's a flyball to right field, and its Dropped by Jermaine Dye"
maybe 15 seconds later - excuse me, thats not Jermaine Dye. He never said who it was, and keep in mind, our jersey have the name on he back, even in spring. I was rollin'

There is nothing like Santo and Hughes with Randy Hundley as their guest. 1 time Hundley blurts out, "So Ronnie which one is today 1,2 or 3?" Santo responds, "I'm not sure what your talking about." Hundley lets it out, "you know your piece. Oh cmon Ronnie nobody really thinks it real." Clearly asking about his wig.
The other day they got into an arguement about some meeting/dinner they had planned. Hughes had to break it up like they were little school kids. Hysterical.

but they were named the #2 radio team in the country by USA today (and only #2 b/c Vin Scully has earned being #1 no matter what...even though he only does like 3 innings)

Several years ago on a cold, windy spring day I faxed Pat & Ron a question during a game at The Shrine. The question, "Ron, It's very windy today. What do you use to hold your toupee on?" Ron, with a bit of anger said, "It's none of your business." Then went on to talk about his various hair pieces.

What made it even better was that I "signed" it with a Cubbie fan friends name. A few weeks later this Cubbie friend told me that he heard about the fax question from another friend of his who was listening to the game.
