If the Sox continue to pitch like this...look out.

Thome needs to stop swinging for the moon every time he comes up to bat... he'll end up getting a few home runs and striking out a whole bunch. Let's tailor your hits to the situation, eh Thome?

Aside from that, the Sox looked great today! Let's keep this up and take the series in Oakland.

Now this is what I was talking about the other day. This was going to turn into a pitchers duel, Rich Harden looked awfully good, but the SOX capitalized early, and got his pitch count up. Good job Sox, impressive win last nite

Jose still started off kind of shaky in my opinion. Most of the first three innings his counts started 2-0 and then he either had to battle back or the batter hit a hard fly ball to one of our outfielders. To his credit he got better as the game went on. The ump was also doing him a favor calling some of those outside pitches for strikes otherwise it could have been a lot worse. But like I said he battled back and the rest of the team played solid baseball. If we keep playing like this we are gonna be unstoppable.

Meanwhile, Thome went 3-4 with a solo shot to tie it in the fourth, singled in the eighth to drive in the important 3rd (insurance) run and finished with the 2 RBIs we needed to win the game. WTF are you talking about? :kukoo:

no shit....that's how thome hits. period.

look at his career #'s and tell me you won't take those out of your 4 hitter. it's his approach and it works. blah blah blah.

Also, it obviously wasn't working til he was able to force out some other hits, eh?

Meh. I think my logic is too advanced for you people. ;)

I think shes got a point .....his basehit that got Konerko to 3rd, happened because they played that goofy Thome Shift on him ......... and he took it up the middle. Thats more of what I want to see from Thome.
The mistake pitch that Harden threw was right over the plate and he mashed it. Harden threw him an exact pitch like that earlier and he totally whiffed on it ...........

trust thome. he knows what he's doing. this is, what? his 14th season? i don't think he's going to all of a sudden forget how to take 100+ walks a year

No offense, but that's Jim Thome...he's not going to change. He's a free swinger and he's going to strike out, but he's also going to hit some bombs.

First, Thome shouldn't change his approach the majority of the time to get a basehit. He's not here to play smallball, he's here to mash the ball.

Secondly, Harden got behind 3-0...that's Harden's mistake. If he didn't want a ball mashed like that, he should have gotten ahead in the count. There's more to that AB than Harden throwing a good ball to hit.

I'm not saying Thome isn't cold right now, but some of you are trying to tell him to change his ways. He isn't going to change, but he is typically a slow starter and hopefully he (with Dye) heats up soon, because we could go on a serious run.

even if you hit .300 you make outs 70% of the time.

Thome has gotten on base about 40% of the time in his career. This year, even though he's slumping, he's at 36%. I wouldn't crap the bed about Thome---he'll get his knocks. He always had when healthy (and he's only been non-healthy for one season)

Kinda reminds me of when Frank came back and knew he couldn't run, so he was going out there with the lone objective of hitting the ball as far as he could. As long as he's the only one doing it - and the rest of the team is producing in their own way, it can be effective.

Didn't get to see the game but was glad to see the result. The Sox will go as far as they their first four starters will take them.

And I think they might be pleasantly surprised by one John Danks.

Only 3 players on the Sox are hitting > .250 v. LHP so far.

Erstad, Pierzynski, and Thome each are 1-10 v. LHP.

It doesn't help that Hall is on the DL and Anderson is on the bench.

Remember, Anderson needs AB's--- just not often and not against left handed pitchers that might have some skill...besides that it's all about the matchups.
