I hope not. My question is, if he does get in, what changed between the last 10 years and this year that he should get in? HOF voting is retarded.

His numbers per 162 games:
.277 25 96
.954 Fielding % (I know, I know. It means nothing)
This is all you have to do for the Hall of Fame? And he retired at the age of 34 with a .221 average (with the Sox)
And with all this talk about basing voting off character, let's not forget Santo was the biggest jerk in modern baseball history.

I looked up Ripken's Fielding% at third, and while he played less games, it was about 10 points higher. And he wasn't even a third baseman.
It just makes me sick. The Sheep will believe anything that is thrown their way. 90% of the Cubs fan base probably don't even know Santo played baseball. They're mostly my age.

as soon as Santo regrows his legs he deserves to be in the hall of fame
....for leg growing.
Until then he doesn't belong in any hall of fame

Like I said, what would have changed that would suddenly make him a HOFer? Hell, I wonder that when a guy gets in in his second year of eligibility.

that's the writers being cunts about who's a "first-ballot hall of famer" and who's not.
Another way they can keep telling themself that no one will ever ever be as good as ruth ever

Heres the ESPN "breaking news" story .....
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2781628
What bothers me is, that Minnie Minoso wasnt elected either. Im GLAD Santo isnt in. I have a problem with so many players being elected from a 1969 Cub team that choked colossally down the stretch. I think the Hall Of Fame is saying that .........They have some standards

Try telling them he played for the Sox for a bit.
This is the kick off to baseball season. The moment when Santo gets the finger. News cameras are always at his home awaiting the call. Santo sits in some mangeled chair. The phone rings, his eyes drop, hangs up, and says not this year. He thanks everyone for their support and Cubdom is outraged.
It's great.

Indeed it is. This is another great start to the worst franchise in Chicago baseball history.

this whole Santo-isnt-in-its-a-travesty bull with the Media is just about borderline ridiculous. Les Grobstein was on the North show today, and he said that all of Phoenix and Tucson were talking about this. Santo is an oaf who is lucky enough to be on a television superstation that caters to his team
and him, and has the dumbest fanbase in sports to pity him.

this is a Media driven issue. If Santo were on any other team, this wouldnt be an issue. Then again, if Santo were on any other team putting up his stats, he probably makes the playoffs/world series a couple times in his lifetime and makes the Hall ............. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA
Thats what you get for being a Cub Ronny.
Now Deal With It. And Quietly please

Anyone with half a brain or who can log on to baseball-reference.com knows Santo has no business even sniffing the Hall of Fame. Most similar players by age:
21.Adrian Beltre (956) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
22.Adrian Beltre (946) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
23.Adrian Beltre (975) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
24.Adrian Beltre (945) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
25.Adrian Beltre (965) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
26.Adrian Beltre (946) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
27.Adrian Beltre (931) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
28.Eric Chavez (902) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
29.Ruben Sierra (884) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
30.Del Ennis (873) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
31.Del Ennis (878) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
32.Del Ennis (882) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
33.Al Kaline (863) * 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
34.Al Kaline (865) * 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 C
The only HOFer on the list is Al Kaline, and Santo was most similar to Kaline when they were both in the twilights of their careers. And to argue Beltre, Chavez, Sierra and Ennis belong in the Hall is stupid.
I just don't understand why people can't see past the Cubbie bullshit on this one.

Nostalgia is a very powerful influence.
On a related note, if the Vets' Committee isn't ever going to elect anyone, why have it? Not saying that old bastard deserved it in any way, shape, or form, but they haven't elected anyone for several years now.

OKAY, heres the OTHER SIDE OF THAT ARGUMENT. Just because there IS a Committee, are they supposed to elect someone every year? Maybe that committee is really saying that for that GENERATION ..... thats all they think should be in, and wait til the NEXT WAVE of people become eligible.
Im tired of the Chicago Media pushing this idea around that because youve been on the ballot the longest ........... means you should be in. Im sorry.
Santos numbers are the same. He hasnt miraculously added to his stats since then. Santos stats are not like wine ......... somehow getting BETTER with age. Santo is NOT Hall Of Fame Material.

No one's arguing about Santo. However, it's been years since the Vets Committee voted anyone in, so what's the point? Hell, if they couldn't make it on the regular ballot, why should they get more chances with different voters?
If I had my druthers, I would tell the voters that if a guy is good enough to be in, vote him in on the first ballot. None of this first-ballot, second-ballot shit.

good point and I agree. Just abolish the Veterans Committee altogether.
Marble Mouth Santo had 15 chances, and struck out every time.
Hes NOT a Hall Of Famer. This is Bull Junk that the Chicago Media has gotten everyone riled up about this, like its a travesty of some sort (while forgetting to tell people that he had 15 chances before)
The fact that Santo takes advantage fully of the Chicago Media to campaign for himself is the REAL TRAVESTY.
