Contreras reeked.
The 'pen (minus Masset) did pretty well.
Erstad's hit would have been a lot bigger if JC didn't fuck it up so bad.
Get 'em again on Wednesday.

I am honestly pleased with how the bullpen looked today and most of the team besides Jose. It would be nice if we had been able get a little clutch hitting/small ball in there... but we've still got 161 more games to go.
Oh, I also liked Jjav's first post for the WSI post game thread:

At least the weather didn't suck.
Yoda bought me an Old Style and an MGD.
He got a free White Sox flag for his car.
I had a Budweiser at Jose's tailgate afterward.
Pdimas brought 2 ridiculous looking girls with him.
Meh.

This guy was pretty drunk, and had a big mustard stain on his shirt that Yoda and I were cracking up at.

Pretty funny, Zoso. But by that point (the 8th or 9th), the game was over and our section was too depleted for there to even be people to be offended.

One guy in a Cubs pullover walked past Jose's tailgate after the game, and Chisoxmike gave him the finger while Skottyj told him to go the fuck back to Wrigleyville.
Why would you show up to the Sox home opener wearing Cubs shit? I don't get it.

There was a guy in 520 wearing a Cubs jacket. His response? "Gimmie a break, its a warm jacket."

518 >> 520
I saw the people that bought your tickets. The gravitate toward greatness so sat in front of me. I had to clue them in that 518 was one section over. Their pride shamed, the shuffled down the line, never to be seen again...

I'm all in favor of boozing it up at a tailgate, but there were a disturbing number of literally staggering and stammering drunks wandering around the concourse at 1 p.m. today. I used to think that only Cub fans and Badger fans go to a game so drunk that they can't possibly recognize what's happening on the field. However, by the bottom of the 2nd, I wished that I were one of the drunks.

It was hard to even move on the concourse. It was packed with people (Trixies & Chads), early and late, that didn't give a shit about the game. Some of them were just dropping their garbage on the ground instead of throwing it away. It was trashed out there by the end of the game.

I saw some disgusting motherfucker pissing in the garbage can in the men's room, because the lines were so long.
The line between being a Flubs fan and a Sox fan gets smaller and smaller with each passing year.

Here's to you Mr. Drunk-turnaround-to-face-the-fans Guy:
Mr. Drunk-turnaround-to-face-the-fans Guy!
Your ticket to a public event doesn't just give you the right, but the duty, to get inebriated and let all of those around you--including children and the elderly--know it.
Don't care about the children!
Your foul mouth and yellow mustard stains let all everyone within an eye or an earshot know that you root for the home team.
I think I see sec-ur-i-ty...
And while you may spend one night in a jail cell for drunk and disorderly conduct, those kids will remember how to cuss and shout epithets...for the rest of their lives.
Mr. Drunk-turnaround-to-face-the-fans Guy!

That sucked the balls of a million men...
It still felt good to be back at the ballaprk... The folks in 116 maintained good spirits and seemed to realize, as we all do here, that it's a marathon and not a... not marathon.
let's do 161 more...
and don't suck ass Jose...

Opening day usually has the jamokes out in full force. That's just how it is. Last Opening day I went and it was the first time I really tailgated and/or drank at a Sox game. I got HAMMERED, and I will NEVER do that again. I still had a blast, but it's hard to really concentrate on the game when you're shit faced. Plus I went through like a pack of cigarettes before the rain delay and had to buy an 8 dollar pack in Chicago.

I watch games at home to concentrate on the game. When I go, I like to get proper drunk. Of course I'm all about the game, I just don't hang on every pitch. Besides, I learned long ago from leaving the park pissed and miserable after many Sox losses not to care so much. They usually lose when I go, so I just get drunk and enjoy myself either way.
I guess I'm a Cub fan.
No, I wasn't drunk. That's fine. I was hammered.

By the 2nd inning I just got hammered and decided to walk around the park to socialize. I lost all interest in the game.
My highlight of the day. I was standing on the concourse behind the section (134) where my seats were talking with 3 gals I know when who should come strolling by but former Gov. Big Jim Thompson and his wife!
I shouted "Hey, Big Jim,....I was here Opening Day 1991 when you gave your speech on the field. I then told him I gotta thank you Mr. Thompson, because of you this ballpark got built. Seriously thank you, 'cuz without your efforts this doesn't get done and the Sox move to Fla!
I then shook his hand and he thanked me for the kind words!
How cool was that?

The game was crap but at least the tailgate was fun. It was good to see a lot of you guys again. I gotta admit I kinda missed the summer family. I wasnt sure id be able to booze considering that after I left Mitchells/Puffers the night before I puked and then puked twice in the morning. My fears were unfounded as the first beer went down beautifully and so did the next one and the next one and the one after that...
I gotta admit I liked seeing Erstad out there. I wasnt too sure at first. I think he is gonna pleasantly surprise a lot of people.

I liked Erstad too and I had the same concerns about him as most people. Actually, my concerns weren't exactly about him but about the fact that BA could do the same job just fine. Erstad looks good. I just wish it didn't mean BA had to sit on the bench because I see no reason for that. I still think BA should be traded to a team who will give him a chance. We apparently don't need him.

Jhonny Peralta:
After facing him on Opening Day, Jhonny Peralta told reporters that Jose Contreras "just wasn't throwing as hard as last year."
Contreras was knocked around for eight runs in one-plus innings. "He usually throws harder," Peralta said. "Today he was throwing a lot of sliders."
uh oh....

How about the layer of trash and beer bottles that covered the concourse after the game?
That's because they didn't have the video of Cliff Politte telling everyone to throw their shit away.
It was really bad though.....piles of garbage everywhere and all the trash cans I walked past were empty.

Jermain Dye reminded us to pitch in. Then he drank a jug of Carlo Rossi in the visitor's bullpen.
The trash cans were clean because the staff emptied them. What do you want, an overflowing can that consumes us all? NO THANKS!

Anytime you get 40,000 people together, there's gonna be some complete sociopaths who do shit like that. Especially at opening day, you'll see all these rookies walking around blind drunk like it's New Year's Eve.

True, but it makes me feel a little foolish making fun of the Cubbie Clowns Fanz and the Urinal and then witnessing it firsthand at USCF.
True the lines were long but for me they moved rather swiftly. I was in a line for the can and it was about 15guys deep before the entrance and I still only waited about 5min.

Maybe the Buerhle video of recycling confused people used to Cliffs clear directions on how to just throw stuff away. I agree though, that was a mess!!
Speaking of messes WTF is up w/ the Illinois lottery crappy promos, THEY SUCK!!! Yesterday they had the crowd vote which ball this poor scmuck got, fumbled through the whole thing, then they dont even tell everyone what he won, or if he won. They just wisked him off into nowhere, and said "thanks for playing" There was another lottery moment yesterday where the girl got booed, cause she couldnt even read the promo right. They suck. Anyone remember a game in 05' late summer Fireworks night vs. Minny, they had these giant scratch off tickets for a million bucks, and the 3 contestants couldnt scratch the stuff off, it went on for a good 15 minutes, to a chorus of boo's and F-U's to the lottery spokeswoman. Poor gal looked like she was gonna cry.
